Nice map and area information
Ever-elegant Nice, one of Europe's most saught-after destination cities, is situated on the famous Riviera on France's dazzling Mediterranean coastline.
The stunning backdrop of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, the lowlands of the Alps, with a sunny climate and magnificent beaches, all show off Nice's natural beauty.
One of the oldest Greek settlements in the world and a prominent Mediterranean port, Nice certainly has its own historical value and maritime culture.
200 years a summer retreat for Europe's aristocracy, Nice has its share of beautiful Baroque and Belle Epoque architecture.
The city is renowned for its
wealth of upscale restaurants, designer shopping and trendy discothèques, along with mouth-watering ice-cream parlours and a beach holiday feel.
For that truly French experience, sample the local fromage, old-world wines and spectacular cuisine, or visit the interesting art galleries and châteaux in the city centre.
Nice is just a short journey from the celebrity silverscreen glamour of Cannes, or the spectacular cliff roads to Monaco and Monte Carlo, with its Formula One Grand Prix racetrack.
Other excursions from Nice include the Provence countryside, with chateaux and vineyards such as Château de Berne or Tourtour, officially one of France's most beautiful villages.
Great for relaxing by the Mediterranean, or soaking up the French charm and glamour of this international city, it's easy to spend your time in Nice, whether for business, holiday or leisure.

Nice, culture and shopping
Nice culture revolves around a love of cuisine, beauty and a tranquil Mediterranean lifestyle.
When you've spent enough hours relaxing on the beach, people watching, dining and sightseeing, its time to partake in Nice's preferred past-time: Shopping.
To seriously splash the cash, Carre d'Or and the zone piétonne on Rue Masséna have upscale shops and boutiques, while Rue Paradis boasts the luxury designer stores.
In Vieux Nice, around Rue Rossetti and Rue Droite, find the more unique designer shopping, as well as art dealers, alongside local produce shops for gourmet foods and wines.
A Nice must-do is the Cours Saleya, an open square and daily marketplace, with a fine selection of cheeses, groceries and pâtisseries, as well as a flower market.
On Mondays however, the market is transformed into an antiques and fleamarket for bargain hunters.

Nice for the Arts
For art fanatics, Nice has a super selection of French art and artefacts, ranging from ancient to contemporary.
The Terra Amata museum has stone-age relics, while the Palais Lascaris features a renaissaince gallery. Modernists enjoy the huge contemporary art gallery (MAMAC), in Vieux Nice.
A definite must-see, the Musée Matisse has an extensive collection of the French impressionist's work, with a lovely setting in olive gardens, on the hill of Cimiez by the monastery.

Nice glamour
Remember a strict dress-to-impress attitude to properly enjoy the nightlife scene in Nice.
The Opéra de Nice, the Théâtre de Nice and smaller theatre houses located in Vieux Nice, offer up a full programme of classical, ballet and contemporary performances.
For the young and beautiful, there are plenty of bars, terraces and discos in and around the Cours Saleya, or head to Rue de L'Abbaye for a more local ambience.
If you're
feeling lucky, have a flutter in casinos located on the Promenade des Anglais.
Nice is also famous for its exciting festivals year-round, however the most notable is the Jazz festival in July. Although based in the Cimiez park, Nice town centre comes alive each year with celebrities and a jazz line-up. You'll find live performances in bars around the old quarter.
