Valencia's low-lying position along the Mediterranean coast means excellent city beaches, stunning flora and fauna in its gardens and fine weather for exploring the city.
The historical centre fans southwards to modern areas of Valencia; the Cuitat des Arts i Ciencies and the glamorous port, while the Northern edge is rimmed with dazzling gardens, earning Valencia its title as the "Garden City".
Whichever direction you take in Valencia, by tram, metro or on foot, you are bound to discover unique attractions that make this city so special.

VALENCIA NEIGHBOURHOOD AREA GUIDE
El Carmen
The vibrant core of the El Carmen district is central Valencia, with shops and paella bars among its colourful low-rise buildings and ancient architecture.
You are a short stroll from all of Valencia's favourites, such as the medieval Torres de Quart, the historic La Lonja de la Seda or the Mercado Central for fresh groceries.
In such a central location, public transports are frequent and well-connected, taking you to Valencia's beaches or the Ciudad de las Artes y Ciencias in about 15 minutes.
Extramurs-Botanic
There are many markets and terrace cafés in the pretty garden district of Extramurs-Botanic. You are 10 minutes' stroll from the historic El Carme in central Valencia.
This area is famous for its restaurants, with a range of eateries and also a short walk to the botanical gardens, the IVAM art gallery or nightlife on Calle Juan Llorens.
Sightseeing monuments such as the Mercado Central, La Lonja and Valencia's lovely churches, are under 15 minutes walk or a quick and easy commute on public transport.
Eixample
In Valencia's beautiful Eixample district, you are surrounded by shops and restaurants, with a short stroll to the Turía gardens, one of Valencia's green spaces.
An upmarket district, find here the Palau de la Música, or Jorge Juan mall and the striking marketplace, Mercado de Colón, for shopping or fresh groceries.
Valencia's favourites, such as the bullring, the beach, the Ciudad de las Artes y Ciencias or the historical El Carme quarter, can be reached in about 10 minutes' commute.
L'Oliveret
The tranquil L’Oliveret district is northwest of Valencia’s city centre. It borders the artsy Patraix and also the Extramurs area, for dining and nightlife.
You will find here many open greenspaces, such as the pretty Parque del Oeste and the Turia gardens, with design concepts and modern art against a traditional Spanish vibe.
The locals celebrate during Fallas time and you will find large supermarkets nearby, with direct transport links to arrive at the old centre, the airport or the beach in a short commute.
Patraix
The laid-back Patraix district, is just south of Valencia’s historical centre and El Carme, with many supermarkets, typical Spanish tapas bars and cultural events.
Known for its arts contributions for celebrations including Las Fallas or for its bullfighting arena, Patraix has many plazas to explore, along with public transports to the city’s key sights.
A short commute will take you into the medieval El Carme, Valencia’s beach districts or the modern Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias; with an opera house, aquarium and galleries.
Jesús
The local Jesús neighbourhood of central Valencia is located on the border of the artisan Patraix district.
Known for its typically Valencian pageants and activities, there are also plenty of tapas bars and shops in the area, as well as a direct line to the dazzling beaches at Malvarrosa.
Valencia's sightseeing favourites, in old El Carme, such as Mercado Central, La Lonja, or the City of Arts and Sciences, can be reached by public transport in about 10 minutes.
Ciutat Arts i Ciències
Downtown in Valencia, you will find the Cuitat Arts i Ciències district, with plenty of shops, cafés and amenities, as well as weekly markets in the area.
You are a short walk from Valencia's remarkable Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, with its opera house and aquarium, among other fabulous modern structures.
Valencia's historical monuments in El Carme, or the beach, are reached in about 10 minutes by public transport.
El Grau
The El Grau district is located right between the old city centre and Valencia's lovely beaches.
There are supermarkets closeby as well as El Grau's commercial centre with shops and bars, with the Ciudad de las Artes y Ciencias at a short walk.
With quick connections via public transport, you can arrive at the Malvarrosa beaches or historical El Carme quickly.
Pla del Real
The pretty Pla del Real district is surrounded by attractive greenspaces, such as the Jardines de Real. A tram goes directly to the beaches or the airport.
This is a laid-back residential area, with an array of tapas bars, supermarkets and shops tucked in around its palm-tree lined streets, along with Valencia's football stadium.
Neighbouring El Carme historical centre has most of the popular sights within walking distance, such as the Torres de Serranos, the plazas and the famous city markets.
La Saïda
In La Saïdia, it's a stroll to the local gardens and swimming pool or the pretty Jardines de Real, with a tram line to Valencia's sunny beaches.
This is a laid-back residential area, with an array bars and supermarkets, as well as a weekly open-air market for fresh Valencian produce.

Benimaclet
Valencia's local Benimaclet district is located between La Saïda, Pla del Real and the beach neighbourhoods, with a direct tram line for the airport.
Benimaclet is a quieter part of the city centre, but an easy walk or commute into El Carme, to enjoy the historical centre.
Benimaclet retains a small-town feel, with a main square and a church, as it was once a village. The Jardines del Real are nearby and certainly worth an afternoon stroll.
Malvarrosa Beach
Malvarrosa Beach district offers you a setting just minutes’ walk from the dazzling Mediterranean coastline, with some of Valencia's best city beaches.
This charming beach neighbourhood has typically Spanish low-rise buildings, tapas bars, a promenade of seafood restaurants and also some of Valencia's hip city nightlife.
With the beautiful beaches at your disposal, you are also a quick commute into the historical city centre for Valencia's museums, markets and the Ciudad de las Ciencias.
