Full of reminders of its past, the north of Friedrichshain lies between Karl-Marx-Allee and the Volkspark. On many of the streets you can still see 19th century “Gründerzeit” architecture. On others like Rigaer Strasse you’ll see the painted façades of former squats – still an area where radical politics and nightlife mix, although it is rapidly becoming more respectable.
A pleasant walk will take you into Alexanderplatz and on to Mitte. Or just stay local and enjoy the flea markets and trendy brunch cafés around Boxhagener Platz.
