Taxi in Florence

Taxis in Florence are white, with a sign on the roof. You need to use the taxi ranks, at main stations and at the Florence Amerigo Vespucci airport, or call a licensed company. Scroll down for airport transfer information.
Taxis in Florence are expensive, however they allow access to streets which are otherwise closed to regular traffic.
The meter will show the fare, but extra fees may occur, for example with luggage to be handled.
Getting around in Florence
Florence is small, so it's easy to cover journeys on foot.
The city bus network is made up of two companies that manage public transport in Florence. The buses are orange and there are bus routes all over the city that run frequently.
A single journey costs about 1 Euro, or pick up a day ticket for around 4 Euro.
A much more old-fashioned way of getting around the city is to go by horse and carriage! From most major sights, a horse and trap is a great alternative means of transport but be sure to agree on a price beforehand.
Major transport stations in Florence
There are two major transport stations in Florence, as follows:
Florence´s central train station is called Santa Maria Novella (SMV) and is the main train terminal for transport arriving and leaving Florence. Trains going to Bologna, Milan, Venice and Rome depart almost every hour.
Outside Santa Maria Novella train station you will find most of the major bus companies operating on regional routes.
The second station, Campo di Marte, is the terminal for some long-haul trains.
Parking in Florence
Taking your car to Florence is not recommended, because of the restricted traffic area controlled by a network of video cameras. If you are driving in Florence, you can make use of the free car park at Piazzale Michelangelo. This car park has plenty of space and also great views over the city.

Florence Amerigo Vespucci (FLR) airport transfer information
Florence Amerigo Vespucci (FLR) airport is located 4 km from the city centre, with convenient airport transfer by bus to Santa Maria Novella train station in central Florence.
The bus service runs from Florence airport into the city centre at 30 minute intervals approximately, from around 6am until 11pm. The journey costs about 5 Euro.
Taking a taxi from Florence airport is a fast and inexpensive way to arrive at your apartment. The fare into the city centre is about 20 Euro, depending on the time of day and extra on public holidays.
The journey time into central Florence is approximately 15 minutes.
Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport (PSA) airport transfer information
Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport (PSA) is situated approximately 85 km from Florence. You can catch the train to Pisa central and transfer for a train to Florence. This costs around 7 Euro and the journey takes around 75 minutes.
Alternatively, you can catch a direct bus from the airport, arriving in Florence Santa Maria Novella station. The journey time is 70 minutes and costs around 10 Euro single journey or 16 Euro return journey.
