Taxi in London

Taxis in London are usually black, with a yellow light on the roof. They are readily available, with stands located at main transport stations. To hail a cab, look for a taxi with an illuminated light on its roof, indicating that it is free.
Taxi fares in London are expensive, with a minimum fare of £2.20. The meter will show the fare, but extra fees may occur, for example during rush hour and at holidays or weekends. However, any additional charges must be added on the meter at the start of the journey. For luggage to be handled or additional passengers there is no extra charge.
Bus and Underground in London
London's public transport system is the best way to travel.
The Greater London area is divided into 9 zones. Zones 1-2 are important for inner city travel. Tickets can be used between tube, buses, the Docklands Light Railway and London Overground services.
A single ticket costs around £5-6 depending on the time of day, however the 1, 3 or 7 day travelcard is less expensive.
An Anytime Day Travelcard, valid Mon-Fri, costs around £7. An Off-Peak Day Travelcard, valid Mon-Fri after 9.30 am, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays costs around £5.50. Anytime 3 Day Travelcards, cost around £17.50. Off-Peak 3 Day Travelcards, valid every day after 9.30 am for the zones 1-6, are about £20 and a 7-day ticket is £25 approx.
The Oyster Visitor Card includes transport across all networks and is the smartest way to get around in London. Bought in advance at travel kiosks, with a small deposit, the Oyster Card works like a pay-as-you-go form of travel and ensures the lowest price for each journey.

The London Underground, the "Tube", operates Mon-Sat from 5am-1am and Sunday from around 7am-midnight. London's red double decker buses are a common sight in the city, with services through the day and through the night.
The Docklands Light Railway is a second overground metro system serving East London and Greenwich on both sides of the Thames.
Major transport stations in London
London is served by several main terminus stations. There are 7 important train stations in London, as follows:
Sant Pancras Station serves the Eurostar to Paris, national routes and connection to Gatwick and Luton airports.
Kings Cross Station serves routes to the north of England and Scotland.
Waterloo Station, to the south, serves commuter railways from South West England and the London's suburbs.
Victoria Station is a major transport terminal, with routes to the South and South-East of the UK and airports. The Victoria Coach Station is a 5-minute walk from the train station. It serves national and international bus connections.
Paddington Station connects the regions in the West, Wales and is the terminal for the Heathrow Airport Express trains.
Liverpool Street Station, to the north-east, serves routes to the east of England as well as to Stansted Airport.
London Bridge Station, located in the Borough of Southwark, connects London to the South and South-East as well as to Gatwick and Luton airports.

Parking in London
There will normally be public car parking facilities spread throughout the city, although taking public transport is a much easier way of getting around town.

London airport transfer information
London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is located 24km from central London.
All five terminals of London Heathrow airport connect every 15 minutes to Paddington Station in the centre via the Heathrow Airport Express. Trains run 5am-11pm and the journey takes 15 minutes. A single journey costs £17.
Heathrow Connect trains run the same route every 30 minutes. They take around 25 minutes to arrive at Paddington Station and cost around £7 for a single journey. Trains run Mon-Sat from 5am-midnight and Sundays from 6am-midnight.
For airport transfer via Underground and bus, the Piccadilly line connects all five terminals of Heathrow Airport with central London in about 60 minutes. The underground runs 5.30am-11.30pm and a single journey costs around £4.
The nightbus N9 runs every 30 minutes to central London.
A taxi into central London costs £45-£70, taking between 30-60 minutes to arrive.
London Gatwick Airport (LGW) is situated 45km from central London.
The fastest connection is the
Gatwick Express train to Victoria Station or London Bridge Station. The trains run every 15 minutes from 4.30am-1.30am (Airport-city) and from 3.30am-12.30 (City-Airport) every day. A single journey costs £17 and a return ticket around £30. There a several other trains going to London.
Airline-operated buses connect the airport with the city centre. Between 6.30am-midnight, the Easybus leaves for Victoria Station every 20 minutes approx. and takes just over an hour. Tickets can be booked online.

London Stansted Airport (STN) is located 60 km from the city centre.
The Stansted Express train runs to Liverpool Station every 15 minutes from 5.30am-11.30pm (45 minutes travel time). A single journey costs around £17, a return ticket around £25.
There are inexpensive bus services to Victoria Station, such as the Easybus or National Express, which run 24/7. Tickets can be booked online.

London Luton Airport (LTN) is situated 50 km from central London.
Direct rail services to Sant Pancras Station in central London take around 25 minutes and cost between £22-25 approx.
There are also inexpensive bus services, such as Easybus, running 24/7, every 20 minutes approx., with a journey time of just over an hour. Tickets can be booked online.

London City Airport (LCY) is located in the Docklands in East London.
London City airport is well connected to via Docklands Light Railway, leaving every 7-15 minutes from the Bank underground station. The journey takes around 22 minutes. Bus No.473 or 474 operate between London City Airport and Greater London.
Airport transfer by taxi takes about 30 minutes and costs around £20-£30.
