Whether it is ice-skating in London’s Winter Wonderland or if it is tucking into a Trdelnik in Prague, each market reflects this charming festive season!
This charming and majestic city should be on the top on any person´s list to travel to in winter! Vienna is bringing you the “Gemütlichkeit” also known as the “cosiness” of this festive season!
The main attraction is the Christkindlmarkt located at the Rathausplatz, a square in Vienna. It has over 155 stalls this year and with claims that the products are more diverse than ever, I am sure you will be amazed!
The markets will provide you with all Viennese delicacies so you can experience Christmas like a local, from wooden toys to the lebkuchen – a traditional German Baked Christmas treat!
As well as the markets you can do an array of activities, as well as ice skating you can have a go at curling – you could have your own winter Olympics!
Something for the children – children can decorate their own lebkuchen! It is also known as gingerbread; in the Town Hall children can decorate their own gingerbread which is completely free of charge!
2. London – Winter Wonderland
Winter Wonderland – the ultimate place to be for families, friends and Christmas fans. Located in beautiful Hyde Park in the centre of London, for 6 weeks from the 18th of November until the 2nd of January, it is the place to be! It is their 10th Anniversary this year, so you can expect a big celebration!
The Christmas Markets have over 200 Bavarian-style wooden chalets and has the best festive food and drink offering mulled wine for the adults and churros for the younger ones!
If you haven’t got enough decorations for your tree or have forgotten a few presents for Christmas, do not worry Winter Wonderland has got you sorted!
This great festive transformation offers you other delights as well as the Markets, from ice-skating in the UK´s largest outdoor ice rink to circus shows, London wants to offer you an experience you can’t forget!
It is free to enter and take a walk around the park but you can buy tickets for activities and you can also download their app to find out more!
With 4 Christmas Markets to choose from you are spoilt for choice! However, the oldest and most popular one is in the Old Town Square! Opens the 28th of November until the 6th of January and is loved by locals and tourists!
Prague is the place to be for food lovers! This Christmas Market will offer you all local and authentic festive food and drink so you can enjoy the Christmas Holidays! Indulge in some Trdelnik, it is rolled dough which is wrapped around a stick, grilled and topped with a sugar and walnut mix! Not forgetting a spit roast and sausages, you can buy yourself a well-deserved treat! It is Christmas after all!
As well as the food, Prague pulls out all the stops when it comes to entertainment. From the traditional nativity scene and beautiful Christmas tree, you can expect music concerts and pony rides for the children! If you want to remember this forever, there is also a viewing deck for a photo opportunity!
The stalls offer you a variety of seasonal goods for you to keep as a memory of your fabulous Christmas holiday! Christmas handicrafts, Christmas decorations and crystals are some of the great things you can buy! Children can also get some traditional Czech Christmas Sweets too!

The main Christmas Market is in Vörösmarty Square, a plaza in the centre of the city! It opened the 11th of November and closes the 6th of January!
With cottage-style wooden stalls and 2 outdoor stages this cosy atmosphere will have you feeling very festive! The market itself sells delicacies like honey cookies, mulled wine and cinnamon. Other than this, there are over 160 programs of entertainment for you to have in the midst of shopping!
There is a mixture of all music genres for you to listen to and enjoy, you could even have a dance to the folk music if you are really feeling confident!
The food at Budapest Christmas Market is something to be admired and will not let you down! Think local strudel, flódni and other Christmas treats like stuffed cabbage in bread and roasted goose thigh!
For the kids there are craft workshops so they can decorate and remember their time in Budapest! Christmas would not be Christmas without Santa Claus! Luckily he makes a very special visit to the Budapest Christmas Market so the kids can personally tell him what’s on their Christmas List!
If you ever go to Berlin for winter, then you are in for a treat! They have 60… yes that is correct, 60 German Christmas Markets! Obviously, we can´t go into detail about all of them as we will be here for a while! I chose 4 to explain! So there are an extra 3 markets in this article, aren’t you lucky!
If you want activities and adventure, head on over to Winter World Potzdamer Platz! Here you can go on a 70m toboggan run looking over the famous Brandenburg Gate! Sightseeing and high-speed activities at the same time! There is also ice-skating and curling, in case you want to create your own Winter Olympics. If you need a break from the activities then head over to the huts for some food and drink!
Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church Christmas Market – locals say that you know Christmas is near when this market is open! Here you can find over 100 stalls selling everything from crafts, to winter clothing and toys for stockings (if you have left presents till last minute – we have all been there). There are also carousels too add that magic touch! Now, you can´t go to Berlin without having a Bratwurst! Luckily this market sells them!
The Berliner Weihnachtszeit Christmas Market is another great market and one that has lots to offer for younger children. As well as seeing the incredible Santa Claus, there is also a petting zoo and a train going through the fairy tale forest. Giving them an enchanting experience and a Christmas they will remember! As well as an ice rink and a Ferris Wheel, feel the nostalgic atmosphere with the organ music with bread and hot mead.
Visit the Christmas Market at Charlottenburg Palace for a mystical and charming experience! It has an amazing light installation where you feel like you are in a different world! Make sure to take advantage of the food on offer! Tuck into crepes, chestnuts and Hungarian langos (deep fried bread), if you are too cold outside most restaurants offer dining heated tents! Of course, there are arts and crafts for the children as well as air swings and an enchanted forest!
