He murdered 16 love couples, the serial killer in Florence who operated in 1968 and 1985. His nickname was the Monster of Florence. Thomas Harris, writer of the terrifying movie Silence of the Lambs, was partly inspired by this story.
In his third novel Hannibal Lecter lives in Florence under an assumed name. Apart from the dark side of Dr Lecter, the writer also portrays his joy for Florence and his preference for a nice glass of Chianti. “I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.”
