The metro (M2) in Istanbul is a work in progress. It currently has two lines and each new line means excavating through years of Byzantium, Constantinople and Istanbul history. No easy job.
The two existing lines are quick and efficient though. Modern and air-conditioned, the metro is nice and cooling after hours exploring the city. And unlike other forms of public transport – no traffic to contend with. So you can get from A to B in no time.
Open from 06.15 (06.30 on Sundays) to 00.30 approximately, you’ll need to buy a token (jeton) at the turnstiles of any metro stop. Price around 1.95 TL.
And who knows, if you take a torch, you may even spot a rare archaeological find out of the window.
