Shopping, wax works, Red Light District

Around Dam square you’ll find many shopping streets.  Visit for example Bijenkorf, the Netherlands' first department store, founded in 1870.

Also check out the wax works museum Madame Tussauds and the impressive gothic church Nieuwe Kerk. At the Beurs van Berlage, a former stock exchange and beautiful monumental building, you can have a coffee in the elegant café or on the terrace.

From the Dam Square area it’s a short walk to Begijnhof, one of the oldest inner courts in the city of Amsterdam. It’s a perfect place to unwind after walking through the busy centre.

The Red light district, de Wallen or Rosse buurt, of Amsterdam is also close to the Dam. Many tourists come here out of curiosity or just for fun. It is also one of the oldest parts of the city.

You can safely walk around as long as you stick to busier streets. But beware of pick-pockets.

The window prostitution is in the following streets: Arndesteeg, Bethlhemsteeg, Bloedstraat, Dollebegijnensteeg, Enge Kerksteeg, Goldbergersteeg, Gordijnensteeg, Molensteeg, Monnikenstraat, Oudekerksplein, Oudekennissteeg, Oudezijds Achterburgwal, Oudezijds Voorburgwal, Sint Annendwarsstraat, Sint Annenstraat, Stoofsteeg en de Trompettersteeg.
