Taxis in Lisbon are pretty smart – it’s not everywhere that you can jump into beige Mercedes whenever you feel like it. You can still spot a few old style ones – they’re black and green.
Pick up a taxi at a rank, phone to book, or simply stick out your hand the old fashioned way. The green light on the top tells you if it’s available.
It’s relatively cheap travelling by taxi, and you can see the fare on the meter. But there can be extra charges at night, or for luggage.
As with any popular city, beware of being ripped-off. Ask the driver for an approximate price at the beginning of the journey, so there are no surprises at the end.
