From homegrown to world fusion
British cuisine isn’t all fry-ups and fish ‘n chips. At least not in diverse London. A veritable world food buffet, there’s something for everyone. Fancy crispy duck? Head to China town. Curry? You’ll find the best on Brick Lane. And the best thing – all totally authentic food made by the real Chinese and Indian communities of London.
Having said that, London does have homegrown fare to rival the international. Shop online, or on foot, at supermarket chains Tesco or Sainsburys. Here you can get everything from organic Cumberland sausages to clotted cream.
Out and about at lunch? The English may be famed for their alcohol consumption, but Gastro-pubs serve fusion of traditional and more innovative recipes. Think deep-fried camembert with raspberry coulis, or venison sausages with parsnip mash. But of course, you’ll still be able to find a good old fry-up in a cheap and cheerful greasy-spoon café.
