Driving in London is expensive. Because drivers have to pay a fee just for the privilege of entering the central Congestion Charge Zone.
If you’re driving between Monday and Friday (7.00am until 6.00pm), your number plate will be recorded on camera. You then need to pay the charge online, in a shop or by phone. Same day payment is around £10, next day is a couple of pounds more, and if you leave it any later, you’ll have to pay a hefty penalty fee. The good news is that you don’t have to pay in the evenings, on weekends, or on England’s public holidays.
Once you’ve worked out the Congestion Charge, it’s time to contend with parking. There are usually restrictions from Monday to Friday, 08.30 to 18.30. Pay at the pay and display machines. For overnight parking, you’re best off in a car park.
